What does everyone use to replace that hellishly sticky stuff holding the plastic sheet on to the door behind the door card that keeps the water out of the cabin please??

Home made Rocky Road might do the job...

I'd clean it off and use double sided tape Mitch!

Why yes I did make rocky road and yes it tasted amazing ;). Any particular type? I had black mastic there but it didnt stick to the plastic. Also needs to be waterproof ;)

We are aware there was a lot of your "love" in that Rocky Road.

I'd just use a narrow double sided tape - not quite reusable but cheap, clean and reasonably waterproof. I hate that goopy stuff.

it has been used in cars for a very long time and it does its job well.OEM use materials that are functional are not expensive. Its butyl and its quite readily available an example of a maker is Bostik - ref 5214, 5323, 5326, 5331.Check Bostik web site for more info. Its probably at Bunnings and almost certainly at auto paint suppliers. It has multi users for sealing etc. Good plan to use the right product and its useful to have.

I think Mr Morlock is on the money here.

Why do you need it? You should be able to the plastic sheet back onto the stuff that is already on the door.

Mazda used a ridiculous amount of it on my NB8A door and it goes everywhere if you're not careful.
I'm just glad they've gone away from it in the NC

I removed it because it had gone everywhere and was just getting on everything so I thought i'd start again. I bought some black mastic (thinking this was the stuff), but it has dried like silicone and is no longer malleable, so it hasn't held the plastic. Now I want something that is sticky and malleable enough that I can remove the plastic and replace it again without putting more mastic on each time.

I've been looking to do the same. It hasn't been easy to get a definitive answer either but I've narrowed it down to the product I previously posted on or the below

or if you know anyone in the telecommunications field - Telstra used it to seal the pits on the footpaths sometimes and those vertical joint cylinders etc.. the stuff didn't go hard - exactly the same as car door stuff..

NOTE: don't use any second hand stuff you find because it might have asbestos in it....
