hey,
so i am looking at getting "bolt ons" so i can get wider tyres. im having alot of difficulty finding any info on them for miatas.... ebay doesnt have any for mx5s/miatas and i cant find any threads on the forum with any info or direction in there to get them. i have seen the odd set for sale but they are $400+ :/ dont wanna get a pair of the net that are "universal" and find out they dont fit. i havent found any in shops that i can try on to check sizes. im loving fiberglass fab atm so if anyone has made any i would love to know if there was an easy way of doing that w/o a mold.

It's totally cool if you want the flares for the look, but the NB can actually fit really big tyres under the stock guards. All you need is a roll, then you can fit 9" wide 6UL with pretty fat tyres no probs

My advice is don't bother with flares unless you are serious about it and you actually NEED them. Remember bolting them on is the easy bit, you have to cut the body up to allow clearance. If you aren't comfortable with cutting out at LEAST this much of your car, then don't bother.


If you ARE serious though, I'd stay away from Autokonexion unless you get their carbon stuff. Their fibreglassing is shocking. I've been down that road before, poor fit, poor quality, crack very easily and all round pretty nasty. You have two choices with AK, 30mm or 40mm flares. If you do decide to go with them, the 40mm flares have far better fit quality to the panel as they have little locator tabs that stick out midway down the flare and help them mate up to your stock body easier.
I sold my AK flares in favor of Jubiride flares. In my opinion, they are the best quality you will find and although they are expensive, you really get what you pay for. Don't settle for less if you have to look at it every day, the last thing you want is disappointment.

But going back to before, don't do this unless you need to. Is the car stock powered still? Do you need wider wheels and tyres? And if you do need wider tyres, do you need a wider track as well? My wheels are 15x8 -6 and with 205/50/15 tyres, there was no possibility of fitting them without massacring the body of my car.

My advaice with buying flares is to go directly to the manufacturer rather than through a shop. Ie: avoid rev9 like the plague. Either go through jubiride or autokonexion directly, or contact tetsuya garage or jesse streeter for better prices.

A few different companies you should look at:

http://www.tuckin99.com/ - expensive as hell and not worth the trouble unless you want N2 flares
