Hi guys. I've just encounter a major issue with my NC it has rust on the door. It's not a lot thankfully. Need help how to remove it and how to treat it.

I've read low grit sand paper and touch up paint. As well as rust converter/treatment but read up that isn't great. Need some help please thanks

Unless you have panel experience (which I'm guessing you don't by the question) get it fixed properly by a professional or it is likely to look like crap and grow like the cancer it is.

Also look at why is there, rust in modern Japanese cars is not common without an underlying problem.

The rust is on the corner. Was done by the door hitting into things when you open it. I was hoping i wont need to get it fixed by a professional :/

So it's just tiny? Just surface rust no bubbling etc?

If so you will probably get away with a home repair.

It's tiny. Do you think Sandpaper and touch up will do the trick?

Get it done by a prefessional Rust specialist, You need to use a Good Quality Rust converter, then use an etch primer over the top after treating it, if its deep may be worth taking as much of it out as possible.

At least the cause is known and external so no underlying issues.

You could ask around to see if anyone can recommend any local mobile repairers. They will just do a small localised repair, rather than the full door, which saves money.

Pic would help.

Separately, problem with rust can be what you can't see - ie it can be like an iceberg, with most of the issue below the surface.

How old is your NC? ie. still under warranty?

I'll post pics once I'm home. My NC is early 06 model. No more warranty.

Ah it's on the edge at the end of the door. You should be able to DIY that - the concern was that it was on a flat outer surface, which with metalic(?) paint wouldn't necessarily be easy for a novice DIYer to fix to a sufficiently high standard on a six to seven year old car. At the least you should be able to DIY something that will stop it from getting any worse.

Thanks. Having a general read through this. Should i just use sand paper to remove the rust? Or a sort of rust converter?

From what I can see in your pic I'd just clean the edge up rather than applying rust convertor, as it doesn't appear to be serious enough. That said, my knowledge & experience in panel work & painting is minimal.

I know this might be boring but touch up painting is easy to google and also there are books that will refer to these processes. I would say that it be carefully rubbed with wet/ dry or just free cut paper and then you apply the correct paint with a small brush. It has to be done carefully and on an edge it is common for these chips to occur. Check perhaps your library or buy a book on car painting. Look up Pat Ganahl and it will also include some other books.
