need some help from those that have installed a tallboy rollbar in their cars

1. the rear stays do not seem to sit level with the parcel shelf. the stays are flat but the parcel shelf is moulded. is it ok to just drill the holes according to the rear stays and just tighten the bolts to the backing plate?

2. the bar itself needs to sit quite high to level out the rear stays. If i try to mount it any lower, it pivots forward and the rear stays do not sit on the shelf? looks like 1 need to shave just 1mm on each spacer...was wondering if there's a way to mount it any lower

3. all the bolts provided only seem to thread 3-4 rounds in the nut before it becomes very stiff to tighten. thought of using a tap and just re-threading the nuts so it's easier to tighten...is this a good idea or are the nuts made that way for a reason?

Yes if you need to cut the spacers then do so. I had to cut them for my SE as well..

Nuts are oval shaped so when you tighten them they cannot back off later. So yes they are designed that way.

And trust me it takes a lot of effort to torque them down...

problem with mine is that the maximum i think i can cut on the spacers is 1mm (to make the lower seatbelt bolt align) and also so the rear stays can sit on the parcel shelf.

if i cut any more than 1mm then it will lower the main rollbar but the rear legs will pivot forward and lift the backing plate off the shelf..

will have another go at this tomorrow.

When you tighten it up the rear stays will flatten out a little bit..

I had to cut about 1mm off the spacers to and the lower bolts were fine...I think you drill those holes yourself? I think you are supposed to do that after sorting the spacers.

Just sitting on the car the bar will not sit as though it is bolted down but when you get everything in it will pull in to place. I think that I put all the rear bolts in a couple of turns and tightened a couple of the rear feet bolts just until they got contact pressure, tightened the fronts and then finished the rears.

The parcel shelf does have ridges on it but that doesnt really matter. Just use the holes in the rear feet to guide your drill.
