Howdy trendsetters.

For all those NA owners out there who have salivated about getting a Zoom Engineering aluminium fuel lid but didn't want to pay $250 + post from USA, wipe your chins and check out what my research has found.

Have just ordered one for myself and ended up being 17800JPY delivered which is pretty much $200 in todays dollar value.

You'll find that most Japanese car parts sold on US based websites are rather overpriced.

Most Japanese parts can be bought for much cheaper directly from Japan (ie: not paying postage from Japan to US, then to Aust)

Purchased mine from REV9. Cost $230 and delivered in 4 days. Will fit it on my 10AE hopefully in the next couple of days. Looks and feels fine quality. It should add a touch of retro to the car.

Perhaps a few hundred grams.

I don't think I'd be going on a diet to make up for the difference :D

Does yours lock in okay? I was able to open mine from outside, without pulling the release lever, so I had to fit some spacers between the Hinge and the car to move the lid back a couple of mm.

Mine only just catches so I may do what you did too.

I also have an aftermarket CPC fuel cap which did prevent the lid going all the way down though when I first fitted the Zoom lid. I fixed this by bending the metal bracket that bolts to the inside of the fuel lid till it had enough clearance.

I wouldn't pay that much for a Zoom one.

I'd happily buy the OBX one though.

The difference is that there's not much engineering involved in a fuel flap. Even if it's made of melted down tinfoil it will work. Even if it doesn't, no big deal.

Brakes are a different matter though, if they don't work then you die.

Correct. Also will the cheap fuel cap begin to rust soon after installation?

Depends waht they're made from.

The Zoom ones are cast aluminium, so no rust ever (but may oxidise over time)

the OBX ones are steel I'm pretty sure (heavier than the zoom) but not sure if polished stainless, or just cast steel.
