Fix windscreen chip?

What's the current thinking on this? I got a stonechip today...typical star shaped one about 10mm at widest point , right in the middle and so not in line of sight. Do you wait and see if it spreads, call the windscreen fixers, ask for a new screen?
Are repairs any good?
Windscreen replacement is a part of my insurance (I made sure of that)....

Really depends on how deep it is. If you want to get it filled the put a vinyl patch over it to keep it clean - the fixers supply vinyl patches. Hot, cold & moisture will probably eventually make it spread, as can low flying high powered aircraft overhead. To stop it spreading you can run a glass cutter perpendicular to the end of the points of the star or the crack. Best to either take it to a fixer for their opinion or replace on insurance.
