Cheap Powdercoating- Melbourne

Postby alexpav » Fri Sep 07, 2012 2:37 am

Hey all,

Thought i'd post this for you all to take advantage of!

I have used these guys more than a few times, there work is great and they are cheap!

They have a a production line type system in place allowing them to do many jobs at once. Unlike most powdercoaters that set aside time for each job.

To give you an idea, I pay AROUND (it does vary a bit) $60 for a set of 4 wheels. $15 for my BD Bar. $20 rocker cover. $30 for side steps off a Navara. You get the idea.
He has a shite load of awesome colours too.
I have even powdercoated wheels with pitted chrome lips and they turned out fine with no prep!

Anyways details are:
GB Powedercoating
86 Northgate Drive Thomastown VIC 3074‎
(03) 9464 6144

It's 2 brothers and I think ones name is Ian or Jerry (I can't remember)

They are really nice blokes so I thought id put the word out there.

Tell him Alex with the White MX5 and all the wheels sent you (he should know who I am)

those prices seem about right. Generally its not worth making a trek across town but a good tip if one is in the area.

It actually seems rather cheap.

I seem to recall a lot of people paying closer to $50 for a single wheel.

Sounds like a great price. I'de be interested to hear if they prime before they powder coat. I made an inquiry with my local powder coater about a Mx5+ bar and sight unseen he said it would be in the $100-$150 range. He mentioned that he had a couple of dip coatings/primers before he applied the powder and mentioned that some guys just coat over the metal with minimal prep. I'm not sure if this is BS or not but I remember a rear bar on my dads old 4wd that was coated, about two years after the fitting the coating started to peel away.
With two laps to go then the action will begin, unless this is the action, which it is.
