Sparco R-100

Sparco tell me the R-100 fits an MX5 with minor modifications to the standard runners. They think the mod is to slightly elongate some holes in the runners to match up with the fittings on the seats.
Is that correct?
They are unable to tell me if I the standard seat belt stalk can be used. On my SE this is mounted on the rail rather than in a fixed position on the tunnel.
Any thoughts?
The standard leather SE seats are way too slippy on the track but I do want a recliner seat. So any other suggestions other than the R-100?

Have you sat in one? Seats vary a lot. Sit in a bunch, find out what fits you the best and run from there. Asking which seat people would recommend is like asking would I fit in a medium shirt? I have no idea, try one on and find out.

Not sure about the R-100 but the side mounts on the Sprint V foul on the NB rails, it would be best to use NA rails in my opinion and to mount the seatbelt stalk to the transmission tunnel like the NA6 does.

No problems fitting the seatbelt to the rails with the Sprint V so it should be ok. It not it's not the end of the world. Just mount it to the transmission tunnel as previously suggested.

I think the R100 is not a go for an MX5:
http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=364866 The Sprint V mates up to the stock NA and NB rails very nicely using the bottom mounts but you wont sit any lower.

Thanks for all the replies.
It begins to look as if I need two different seats ......
I like the SE seat on the road.
And I'd like to be lower at the track so, for obvious reasons, I can at least get the top of my helmet below the roll bar. So maybe I have to go with a seat that only gets put in when I arrive at the track, in which case I can live without it reclining.
Fortunately the passenger space in the car is hardly ever used so I can leave a track seat in that space most of the time. I realise I'll need to fix both seatbelt stalks to the tunnel to make the seats interchangeable.
So what's going to get me low?
Is it maybe even the existing passenger seat with the standard foam removed from the base and replaced by stiffer thinner foam, then recovered in something less slippy than the leather?
I'm off to swap the seats now to see if the recline mechanism gets in the way when they're the wrong way round, and if my car has fittings in the tunnel for the stalks ........

There are no fittings in the tunnel for the stalks. You will need to drill a hole and use a backing plate...your local race shop will have something to suit.
On the standard rails nothing gets you more than a couple of inches lower unless you go for an Elise style seat shell and mount it without using sliding rails. I.E. Mount the seat to some flat bar bent to fit the standard seat mount humps on the floor.
To get lower than that you need to be mounting the seat straight to the floor so it would have to fit between those floor humps or you remove them and go with something completely custom fabricated.

I didn't really have an issue installing a Sprint V in my SE on factory rails. Although I don't need to go all the way back (I'm 170ish).

Finally got the Sprint. It's a great tight fit and feels as if it'll be really good on the track and I wouldn't want it much looser a fit for that.
But I do just wonder if anyone has ever used some, shall we say, mechanical encouragement, to maybe widen the tubes at the hip area, where I could just do with half an inch or an inch extra (don't say it!)?
Any thoughts, bearing in mind I'd prefer to be more subtle than using a lump hammer but am easily persuaded by someone who proves they know better?
If I can get that extra, I reckon the Sprint might stay in all the time, although it would need the protector Sparco now offer to stop the outside bolster from being worn out by people who have to squirm against it to get in and out (that'd be me then).

Racing Driver,
Can you confirm that the second photo is an NA with the SPARCO Sprint R100 and SCHROTH ASM 4 pt harness?
If so, whose is it?
Do you sit any lower in the R100 in an NA than in the stock seat?
I am interested in that combination, but might need a SPRINT V as I am 182cm tall
Appreciate any insight.
OzGuvnor.

As this thread has popped up again I thought I'd mention that I did find a way to customer fit the Sprint to my rather larger than standard middle section. No lump hammer, just a trolley jack. Sorted!
