Wrap for hardtop instead of painting?

Has anyone investigated getting a hardtop recoloured with a vinyl wrap (as used for full vehicle advertising wraps) instead of painting? Would be useful to hear people's experiences (if any) and an idea of cost vs the $3-$400 for a paint job. Considering getting our red hardtop recolored to black for our silver NB8B
thanks

Whats wrong with the Red on Silver
Carbon demon does all of the wraps, a nice carbon wrap would look good, but as he's into MX 5's as well he should be able to provide a p0rety bang on quote.
cheers
Dale

35+ years ago it was all the rage to have a vinyl covered roof on a hard top. Just paint it as that is going to look a lot better and not limit the resale value sometime down the track. Guys paint their cars in matt finishes etc and they love it and its cool but but.

Vinyl wrap is a bit different these days Mr Morlock. It last for years in the sun and weather, is washable and waxable like the paint and is removed very easily without any impact on the paint below at all.

I would DIY and wrap it. Thus it saves the red paint so you can sell it to a red car owner.
Google up the 3M stuff they use and experiment.

I had my hardtop wrapped and can only advise that while you might save maybe $200 at most, the drawback with the vinly is it can develop "stretch marks" which manifest in a whitish discolouartion. Paint, well thats a different kettle of fish. If its a temporary thing youre looking at go for it, but if not a nice paint job is preferrable.
