Is it an issue to remove the stock bonnet catch, and rely on just a secondary bonet catch (pin style or aero style), or are they only for like secondary bonnet restraint (as the name suggests). Like is this going to secure the bonnet properly kind of thing? Are there any other issues which arise from this setup?

For cams rules? If theres 2, one is a secondary.

As for cams, im saying that you need a secondary catch. So fit one catch on one side, and then fit a secondary... On the other side of the bonnet

The Scrutineers at my local hill climb think that the stock release counts as 'seconday' because you need to pull the cabin release for it to pop up (#1) then lift the tab at the front to make it open (#2). Figure that out. But no complaints from me!

The plastic "flush mount" style seem to be acceptable to the constabulary and to a number of engineers. I've seen many of both pass / sign off on them a number of times.

I believe the issue they generally have is the old pin style ones present a hazard to pedestirans in the case of an accident - I would think if you've just been hit by a car going fast enough that you're on the bonnet, the pins cutting you is going to be the least of your problems. Then again, i've never found myself on the wring end of a bonnet at speed.
