Awesome/Awful MX5 Mods

Postby Lokiel » Sat Aug 06, 2011 6:50 pm

Found this page of some amazing MX5 modz while trolling the internet: http://paul-davis.com/miata.html#anchor_morphed

Some of them are very impressive (though not necessarily my "cup of tea").

I really like the Miari: Image

That's quite a collection!
Although I've never been a fan of the mods which make a car look like another, I have to say I liked the 2000GT, and for some reason, the Morgan :?
This is my MX5. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My MX5, without me, is useless. Without my MX5, I am useless.

Me either, especially when (as often is the case) they take one good design and try to make it into another, and end up with some horrible disfigured love child of the two. The TF "replica" right down the bottom hits close to home.

It makes sense to me tho. MX5 is reliable, handle well and so much fun to drive than many other cars so use it as base to build something different exterior. We all have different taste =)

It does make sense as a base car for an individual project, but trying to make it look like another car that already exists... I've never seen it done in a way that I've liked.

There is no such thing as bad taste. You don't have bad taste, you have your own taste!
Probably because you are so rich that you can just go and buy any car that you feel like.

The MX5 is a good example of this!

This is very true. But I believe the term they used was "styling queues" ;)
You do have to appreciate the craftsmanship in some of these though. Like in the Morgan, the whole front assembly looks to have been moved forward.

I agree. You'll notice I didn't say "I've never seen it done well"; I said "I've never seen it done in a way that I've liked".

Yes, but the MX-5 is still an individual car in its own right. It's not a rebodied version of something else, nor is it really trying to be something it's not.

Yes and please keep this to yourself  Others have their own right to appreciate their car in many different ways.

I hope you're not offended by what I'm saying. I'm just stating my opinion, as you say. If everyone kept their opinions to themselves this would not be a discussion forum. If you didn't want me to state my opinion, why did you post this thread? :?

I'm not trying to discredit any of the work that has gone into these cars, or the rights of others to modify their cars as they wish. I'm just saying what I like and what I don't. :)

Davidau in case you didnt realise, your only coming across like a tool. Relax man, its a DISCUSSION forum. How would you feel if people got all defensive and offended that you think they look good. And on top of that they actually told you to keep your opinion to yourself.

'Oh what automotive blasphemy doing this to a car, davidau how dare you post this! Your not entitled to post your opinion because its different to mine..'

See its petty.
