[NA] 1.5 DIN Cubby Fitment Issue

Postby zephyrus17 » Wed Aug 03, 2011 8:52 pm

So I just picked up a 1.5 DIN cubby hole from Mazda and the part number is FC02-55-235A. From my Googling before I could have sworn it's the right part. But when I went to put it in, it doesn't fit. It's like 0.8 cm too thick and clashes with my Pioneer 1 DIN Head Unit. And instead of being a rectangular box seen in the pictures, there's actually a slope on the top face and converges towards the back.

Should I have bought a 1 DIN cubby hole instead? But that wouldn't make sense because I remember reading the OEM tombstone for the '90 NA was 2.5 DIN in total, yes?

Is this when I should have bought the 'updated' tombstone from Mazda as well? Or do they also sell a tombstone+cubby bundle that leaves a 1 DIN head unit spacing?

I have just fitted a 1 din head unit to my 94 Clubman. I bought a radio cubby box from MX5 Parts in England to fill the gap that the 1 din head unit creates.

The cubby box is a perfect fit with the new 1 din head unit and even the black plastic finish matches the tombstone.

Yeah, I know about this part. Is this obtainable from the Mazda dealers locally or only from mx5parts? And this will fit directly onto my OEM tombstone from 1990?

I think it's only available through MX5 parts.

It fitted perfectly to my 94 NA Clubman. I'm pretty sure the tombstones for all NA's are the same. You could give them a call and ask?

I lot of people have upgraded their tombstones over the years, perhaps yours has already been upgraded.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Well, that is a possibility. The leftover cover plate is around the size of the head unit and there's only a small gap (around 1cm) between them..

Opps, I forgot to mention, I got a 1DIN from the dealer as a replacement and then just put it in. There's a small gap at the top and the bottom, but not very visible unless you look hard.
