As stated above, has anyone got a mazda speed seat and a harness installed in their car??

if so, does the harness wear on the sides etc???
im assuming its not possible to use a harness and a standard nb8a leather seat.

Im seriously considering this setup in my nb8a as my car is a daily and as well as used for the occasional track event. ive found im a little too padded for a sparco v. i also find the sparco v's uncomfortable for the little boys if im doing trips longer than hour.

Ive seen people try to do a 4 point harness on a stock seat, not sure how effective the harness will be in the event of an accident...

with no anti dive straps or a way to keep the shoulder straps on you looking at serious back or head injuries, aka death.

I used to have a rallycross harness on a stock seat. I overlapped the harness at the back, and ran it under the headrest - there was no way it would slip off my shoulders.

However I didn't have a crotch strap...so if not fastened properly it did creep up. Not ideal!

i was going to do a 4 point harness. the mazdaspeed seats have holes for shoulder straps but nothing for the sides

Ive seen people do this, but no reputable race shop, or safety shop would ever suggest this.

Dann - that's right, submarining was always a fear but those belts didn't have a crotch strap anyway...and yes, no race shop would recommend going onto the track with a stock seat. Anyway the harness held me in better than the stock lap sash belt. Solved that problem with a pair of Recaro SRIIs.

mmx - like the Recaros, the Mazdaspeed seats should accommodate the lap belt quite easily if adjusted properly.

i have no doubt i will be able to use my lap sash belt with the MS seat.

but how will i go with a ms seat and a 4pt harness???

It just REALLY isnt recommended to run a 4 point any time. And certaintly not with a factory seat.

A stock seatbelt is probably safer with the MS seat. If you need a harness, you need a race seat.

I think a well-fitted 4-point harness in an appropriate seat (like the Recaro I used or the MS) is better than a lap-sash belt. Of course, it's not as good as a 6-point...but it's one of those car with 2 airbags is not as safe as the same model with curtain airbags...but still better than the base model with no airbag?

Plus, if you're seated properly, the likelihood of submarining is low...ish.

With shoulder belts, rather than a sash, you get a submarining effect on impact, ie, your shoulders get shoved down withhuge force and this effect can push you under the belt and wedge you into the footwell.

This is especially bad in a factory style seat that doesnt have anti submarining bum support.

Also, with a 4 point, along with anti submarining bum support in the seaat you choose, you need to be able to run the lap belts across your waist, and then directly vertical to the floor. If you cannot do this dont use the harness. Unless im mistaken, the MS seat forces you to run the lap belts out around the seat, not vertical, straight down through it.

Well written. MS seat is Certified for racing safety in Japan.
Not all models of Recaro seat and Bride seat have holes for anti submarining straps or even holes for lap straps. And you call them unsafe? Each seat all designed for each purpose to suit different users requirement.

REMEMBER the original post was asking to use this for daily drive and occasional track fun otherwise he might as well strip the lot and weld the full cage. We need some common sense here pls.
