Driver's Side Door Lock Replacement

Postby A.Chen89 » Sat Jun 25, 2011 11:53 pm

Hey all,

Just wondering what I need to do to fix the driver's side door lock barrel. This happened after someone tried (and failed miserably) to break into my car:

Apologies for the iPhone photo.

Is fixing this just a matter of replacing the barrel and taking the new barrel to a lock smith to get it matched to my key? Also, what's some good polish to use to remove that nice scratch they left behind?

From the pic, appears to need a new barrel & the metalic green trim surrounding it. Doubt the trim comes with a barrel, & usually it's a case of cutting a key to fit the barrel, if it doesn't come with a key, as opposed to re-keying the slides of the barrel, although just about anything can be done for a price. Check with MX5 Mania or MX5 Plus, or other Sydney Mazda wreckers like for Formaz or MazFord for the bits.

Re polish, at least the scratch doesn't look too deep, but on a metalic colour, I'll leave that to someone better qualified than me to comment.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into it and let you guys know how I go.

Bit annoying though, people these days , could of at least left the paint alone.

Chat to a locksmith, they must deal with this quiet often, shouldn't be too hard to move the guts of your lock into the body of another lock .
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

bit of an update, managed to get a replacement lock off mania and got it recoded at a locksmith

$60 later the driver's door lock is fixed.

the person who did this needs to be shot
