Poor quality 2009 NC floor carpet

Postby lynfordmx5 » Fri Feb 25, 2011 1:05 pm

I have a 2009 mx5 and am disappointed with the sparse quality of the floor carpet? It has looked patchy since new, no loop pile, it looks kind of like spray on grass. Is this common? Has anyone had any dealing with Mazda regarding this? Regards, Wayne

Yep, it's absolute rubbish and could only be called a floor covering. :x I have the accessory floor mats, which are real carpet, but have still almost worn away the factory junk near the foot rest. I have not tried it on as a warranty item because I just know they will say "normal wear".

Our 2002 Astina has the same rubbish "floor covering" and it's worn through near the foot rest despite the accessory floor mats.

Hi JBT,
To avoid the wear near the footrest I made a pattern, cut some thin vinyl sheet (Black) that fits behind the rest and extends to under the mat where the back of my left heel contacts the 'carpet', it is held firmly in place with the hook side of three or four 'Velcro' dots which catch nicely on the 'carpet'.
Cheers.
Greg.
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

Thanks Greg. The accessory mats protect the "floor stuff" in the heel area OK for me. The wear in our car is just to the left of the foot rest where the left side of my foot rubs the "floor stuff". :(
