Hi there,

I'm in the process of getting my power window cables replaced by a local mechanic...after much anger and frustration trying to do it myself, i gave up and opted to get someone else to do it lol....(last time Dave from Mania helped me do it)

Anyway, i've just received a call this afternoon suggesting i have the wrong cables, that is to say, one of them is not the right length?
They were sent from Mania, and I personally believe that they're right as this is my 3rd set in recent months (i screwed up the 2nd set trying to lock it in the capstan!!! )

The part numbers are:

NAY1-58-5X0
NAY1-58-5Y0

I believe the "X" and "Y" represent the corresponding up and down cables

Anyway my question is (and just to confirm) are these for the NA and also, are the NB power window cables any different in length?

If anyone could shed some light on this, it'd be much appreciated, as i'd like to know if they are genuinely the right/wrong cables? or the mechanics i've sent this job too, have no idea what they're doing lol...(i'd prefer the latter here)

yeah the chalenge is to get a good manual. Mania faxed me the page i needed. awsome guys. Interesting that the aftermarket manual had better info then the factory manual on this process. I kept the cables I pulled out. Can't see what the issue was.... But the new ones worked a treat. Watch the way the cable lay inside the door. Ie the route they take they can go two ways but seems no problem in my doors. Seriously if I was in Sydney I'd get Mania to do it. I was in Cairns at the time. No Mazda specialist up there.

I've got an aftermarket manual, bought one the first time this happened, painfully i'm in Townsville lol ....my guess is these guys have done it wrong and either:

a. Not crossed the wires for the up and down
b. Not wound the cables around the capstan properly
c. Not taken the whole regulator out when doing the swap

Anyway, I have replaced them before and every time, i come to the same problem, with the cables just crunching up and the window grinding to a halt, which is why i opted for a mechanic this time

I diassembled my door to do the job. I removed window glass and all. It was going to the paint shop for a door skin respray so I pulled it down. I then reset all the bump stops on reassemble. Basically taking up the slack from year of use. If it is still stuffing up you may have done it wrong the first time. I still need to to my passengers door. I know what you are referring too with the capstain but I managed to get it to sit together on my second attempt. I will take some photos of the disassembly job when I do it. Will be a couple of weeks. engine is out and car parked up badly. Also if you need some more cables I have the ones I removed. They are either in Cairns or Brisnbane or I threw them out????? But I will look for them. Seemed OK to me just the capstain that needed greasing. I can fault them other wise. Has any one ever just removed lubed and reassembled the cables???? has it worked???

Passenger door completed... Still have the cables if required....

If anyones intersted post me back and I will do a written blow by blow instruction on how I do this job... Successfully...

If anyone needs the old regulator cables I still have them.... I think they are fine... just need a bit of grease and instalation

I think more of the speed issue is related to the grease in the regualtor assembly beign 20years old. My door trim internal plastic had never been removed....
