Okay, so I barely know anything about painting.
Recently purchased a BD rollbar, and I'm looking to paint it white, its currently in a matte black style.
Any advice for method, or a spray painter who I could pay to do this would be perfect.
I'm on sydney, any area/location will do
Thanks

Advice? Find a good powder coater and pay him/her the $100 or so it will take to get a perfect finish. Considering that you pay $15 for a half-decent rattle can anyway (not to mention sandpaper, primer, etc), it is a no-brainer. I know an awesome powder coater here in the highlands but they are not that hard to find.

If you just buy a can of auto paint and paint the rollbar with it, the paint will scratch and peel and it won't take long for it to look terrible.
As mentioned previously, get them powdercoated.

Painting the walls of my unit was hard enough, I make paint run.
I'll find a decent powdercoater in my area

Jay Leno showed a spray-on chrome that might prove to be a viable option:

Guys, just remember one thing when you are painting/powdercoating/chroming your bar.
If your cage has a CAMS certification from the installer, by changing the coating on the bar, you could be invalidating the certification.
I know it won't matter to many, but it is something to bear in mind.
Just a thought.....

Does that apply to roll bars too?
Seems a bizarre restriction given that roll bars are supposed to be padded.
ie. Once padded, who knows/checks what colour they are?

I can't find any of the regs that refer to it at the moment, so I am just going on memory from when I had my BD bar installed and certified a couple of years ago.
I believe that it is to do with the bar having changed post certification.
I know that you cannot have a chromed bar certified at all, as I was told by the manufacturer that the chroming process runs a risk of weakening the welds. I am not sure about the reasons behind the other processes being unacceptable.
I know of one person (on this forum), who has his cage built, then took it away prior to install and had it painted. It was then installed and certified after being checked by the manufacturer.
Sorry I can't give you much more info than this, I suggest that you check with CAMS or the manufacturer if you are worried, as this is all going on memory from a couple of years ago.
Cheers
Chris
