Removing front number plate holder

I have a 2005 NC which came fitted with a front number plate holder to fit the large style, black on yellow, NSW plates. I recently purchased the car and it has slim-line, black on white, NSW plates, which clearly do not fit the plate holder. I thought this would be easy to remove but it is pop riveted to the front bumper. I am not game to drill out the rivets, mainly because i wanted to check there was nothing else attached to the back? and that the plate can still be screwed in to the bumper? I know others have removed these as they are rather unattractive, just wanted some advice.

Thanks.

I've got the slim line plates also, I don't believe you can screw the plate direct to the bumper so I got a pair of tin snips and cut the excess plastic off the holder so the plate can still mount to it.
the bottom edge of the plate is level with the top edge of the grill opening.

Hello, I drilled out the rivets, then removed the screw mounting plates from the plastic bracket and used them through the holes in the bumper, hope this helps. Paul.

Are you aware that this is available to replace the OEM bracket?

Cheers,

I used the MX5 Plus bracket with a slimline and it looks great. Just need a pop rivett gun to attach it,

Peter.
