Outer Air Vent Removal
Hello all. New to this forum. I've made my searches, trying to find out how to remove the outer air vents on an NA. Found plenty of advice on the inboard ones, including a number of books, but the outers elude me. Any one had some experience with this? How can I remove the eyeball vent and in particular, the ring around the vent? Cheers all.

Re: Outer Air Vent Removal
What do you mean by "outer" vents? the assymetrical ones on the ends on the top of the dash?
What do you mean by "inboard" vents also?
The only ones I can see are the four eye-balls, the ones at the very front of the top of the dash that directs air onto the windscreen.
I read ages ago that to remove eyeball vents, you thread string through and give it a sharp pull. And AFAIK, the 'rings' aren't a separate trim piece so not removable.

Re: Outer Air Vent Removal
Sorry, yes I meant the eyeball vents, not the asymmetric ones. Specifically, the two (one either side) closest to the doors. I can get the two centre ones out with the string method and, at least in my case, the rings came off separately once the eyeballs were out.
The two outer ones next to the doors seem to be assembled from behind the instrument panel. I've tried the string method with these but to no avail. Thanks

Aero-next year- just ring or pop down to the MX5 factory - they will tell you. Not sure if the Haynes manual has the info- my local library has it. Not sure if you can get a look with an inspection mirror.

Re: Outer Air Vent Removal
You need to pop an old credit card down either side of the vent to unclip it. The yank it out using the string.
Re: Outer Air Vent Removal
Finally got back to this. Yes the string method still works for the outer vents, though a little more force was required. Thanks all for your help
