Questions: flares and hardtop $

Ok guys I have two questions and instead of making two new topics, I'll do it in one!

First is pretty simple, what kind of price will I be able to get if I sell my 1990 factory hardtop. It's in Classic Red and in very good condition. Paint is pretty faded but there are no dings or anything in it. I've been tossing up if I should sell it and go with a carbon fiber top instead. I've found a lot of CF roofs for about $2500 and I'm wondering if a second hand factory hardtop would fetch something similar.
Is this a good cf top? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MAZDA-MX5-MX-5-M ... _909wt_905

Ok now onto flares! I'm wondering what the legality is on these. Can you get defected on them etc? I have a printout of the vidroads wheel stuff but there is nothing on here about them.
This is sort of a two part question. I've been thinking about going wide with the wheels and bolt on flares. I figured that if it looked crap I could get a new front wing for the car but I noticed the other day (actually thanks to Cheyne for showing me) that the rears are a structural part of the car.
Say someone went down the path of flares and guard rolling on the rear, is this a point of no return or can this be restored? I don't mind doing it but if I was defected for having flares and told to take them off, I would be left with cut out welded arches....

faded top probably guarantees a repaint for a fussy owner. Consider what is the going price for a 1990 MX5 and evaluate what you would expect to pay. A CF top is not going to be any more functional than a GF one and possibly not as good in terms of fitment.

Average price of factory hardtops recently would be about $1k.

So what kinda cash adjustment would be adequate if I'm going to trade my oem hard top for a carbon fiber one? Possibly one of Lightyears ones too

hard to say - depends on what spec the cf ht is, as lightyear offered a number of variations.

also depends on your ht - is it an na ht, i.e. without demister & wiring tail & lining/ padding; or is it an nb ht with demister & wiring tail & lining/ padding. need also to take into account your faded paint. here's lightyear's thread to give you an idea of the cf ht costs:
