i highly recommend it, although the knob will sit higher than the stock one unless you modify the knob and/or your shifter, giving you a longer throw. the thread of the OEM knobs are recessed.

If you re tap it, maybe.

I've already looked into this a couple of weeks ago. Your best bet would be to get one second hand. Or bring in some blox ones. They look the same. And eBay seller vex motorsport sell them at a decent price. And they sell different colour and polished or mat finish for extra bling factor

i thought skunk2 still produced the 5sp knobs in our thread (i just assumed you had a 5sp), but they don't.

anyway, i actually fitted a blox 6sp to my car last night. fit, finish and weight is on par with skunk2. i think the shape is slightly different but not sure as i sold my 5sp skunk2 a few months back. got mine from vex/ebay as suggested by Ippa.

10 x 1.25 discontinued a few years ago, it's just taken Skunk2 quite a while to get rid of "old-new" stock.

There are still a few sellers on eBay that has them.
Projectmonkey is genuine and is the cheapest.
There is one completely fake seller, but easily distinguished by the look of the knob (too chrome) and the suspiciously cheap price.

If you are looking for one, they are the same thread as Nissan and Mitsubishi, so use those words in a search

I've not got one but I can't say I'm a huge fan of the longer throw. Personally I'd lash out and pick up a Voodoo if I were you. They have a weightier feel and a nice bulky grip. It really makes the shifts feel more solid and the knob sits a lot lower, I didn't believe it until I tried CheyneX5's one.

I haven't got one yet due to the ridiculous $70 price tag but if you're keen on a quality replacement for your tired old OEM knob, I'd be definately considering the Voodoo. Check out Mania or MX5 Centre for up to date prices.

Sorry if this isn't what you're after lol. But I think the voodoo combined with a short shifter is a winning combo, like using a computer mouse

I would certainly recommend against voodoo + short shifter. There is such a thing as too short a throw.

I actually prefer the longer throw that the skunk2 gives, and can't stand the voodoo (I sold it to Spranga)

I just bought a skunk2 gearnob 10x1.5 for a Honda from JDM $99.00 free postage.
Drilled out the 1st half of the thread to 15mm and just ran a M10x1.25 tap down the remaining thread.
Fits like a beauty and is pretty close to original height. Needed a little drop of loctite 222 thread lock to secure in correct position.

Happy to do the mod for anyone if they cant find someone to do for them. Takes about 10mins on a small lathe.

What happened to the locking nut?

my guess is it was ditched because Richard recessed bottom of the shifter thread into the knob, like the OEM knob.

You can use the locking nut and not do any modifications to the knob but it made it quite a long throw. All you need to do is re-tap the lock nut to 10x1.25. There is plenty of thread in the nut so locks up nicely.
I wanted mine to be flush with the boot like the original. It’s now about 20mm shorter than my standard Knob because the Skunk Knob is shorter. Makes it a nicer and more positive throw. IMHO
