If the tail lights aren't working then definitely, but even a broken or cracked lens is strickly speaking not roadworthy. Difficult to say how much without a pic, but estimate about $1k to $2k.

If your need of tail lights, I have a pair for sale that would probably be cheaper then purchasing one from mazda.
Sucks for this to happen though

How much is it going to cost me to fix my baby? And does it make it unroadworthy in the mean time?
I had pretty decent results from Chris \ C&A Smarsh Repairs in Dural.
Don't know if it's worth your while to go that far, but he does things for a reasonable price.
