I have a 2000 NB8B and when I close the soft top and attempt to lock the drivers side latch first, its impossible to close. When I look at the passenger side window seal from the outside I realize that the rubber seal is sitting on top of the top edge of the window, instead of down next to the inside of the window when I go to close the soft top.
To fix this I have to put the passenger window half way down, then the latches on the soft top close fine, then I put the window back up and it slides up into the correct position outside of the rubber window seal.

Is my entire soft top frame bent towards the passengers side? does anyone else have this? is there a fix?

You should always wind both windows down slightly before lowering or raising your soft top so that it sits properly. Try this a few times and see whether it helps bring it back into the correct spot.

hejira where are you located, i'm sure if you attend an event with your local MX-5 club someone will offer to adjust the roof for you (if required).

Im in Brisbane. Has anyone else here ever had this problem? makes me wonder if the previous owner tried to put the soft top down while they were driving and maybe it flung up in the wind and bent the frame or something..

seconding Hot rodders- windows need to be part way down ( on my car) to close and of course make sure the visors are folded down. latches are also adjustable -not sure if this is covered in owners manual? The US Miata garage site may have info on adjustment.

I usually have window up and door open when latching the roof. The soft-top is designed to allow the window to move outward with the door so the seal should not overlap to the outside. To provide water sealing it must sit flush against the inside and top of the window. Best fit is actually achieved when you close the door with window up. Probably the same on most if not all convertables. If you still have a doubt about how your top fits, drop into MX-5Plus in Geebung and ask them to have a quick look.

There's also a tension cable along each side which is attached to a spring, one of these might have snapped.
