Center Console removal - NC Series

Postby NC13 » Thu Aug 12, 2010 8:17 pm

Hi guys;

Was wondering if anyone can direct me to a link or have documentation on removing the center console of the NC series MX5, namely where the power window buttons are located...

Thanks in advance~

From memory....remove the gear knob. There is a cover at the rear of the console that pulls up to reveal some screws. It was really tight on the NC I was pulling to pieces. At the front there are some screws hiding under the coin tray thing in front of the gear stick. You can use a knife or similar to prise this up. The leather hand brake surround unclips. There is another screw underneath a cover in the cupholder. I think I just unplugged the power window switches and the console came out.

I found this on the US forum. It expands slightly on what Garry said and may be helpful.

"Pop out the coin tray in the front of the console to gain access to the two screws underneath. Remove the screws. Unscrew the gear knob. Work the emergency brake boot up the handle for more manuevering room.

Pop the cover off the rear of the shift console located behind the cup holders. This is difficult. We finally got it to pop up by inserting a slot screwdriver in the seam on top/front after pushing and prying the cover with our hands a bit. It seemed to want to be lifted from the front first and then we released the plastic tabs in the rear by prying from the underside with the slot screw driver. Be especially careful about damaging or marking the plastic parts in this operation. Remove the 2 screws that lie under the sliding tray cover (when open). This will allow the entire console cover to be lifted. There are a couple of tabs in the front that will be easily disengaged as you lift."
