A little help please - Power windows repair

Who here has done the repair? I know it's a diffucult job as I have attempted it this weekend and have as yet failed.
Did you have to pull the entire window winder assembly out of the door or can it be done in situ?
Did you get cable made up to rewind the motor or buy a whole new assembly? If you had cables made up, do you know what length, or in Brisbane, where?
How hard is it to rewind the cable capstan in the motor (tried once failed once) and is there a particular way it has to go back in to install properly?
Thanks in advance.

did it in situ on my old na6, but it took a couple of attempts & was time consuming - was originally told you had to buy the whole window mechanism, but was able to buy the cable from mazda. ended up doing both windows after they went about a year apart. from memory the main problem was getting the new cable to wind around the wheel tightly enough to fit the winder mechanism back together. eventually rewound it the same way it was before disassembly & it was tight enough that it would fit back together.

off topic, but has anyone yanked out the motor from an nb8b door?
my motor squeals. needs some lube in the gears. it looks painful to remove from the door, but it itches me everytime i have to wind down the pax window.
any help is appreciated and apologies for thread jacking.

Yes I've replaced the window cables in my NA6. See the 28 Feb 2010 post on the following link.
viewtopic.php?f=57&t=39676&start=75I just followed the instructions in my workshop manual and it went fairly smoothly. But do you really need to replace the cables? Make sure there's not another reason for their faulty operation first: like oxidized switch contacts, gummed up window channels, etc.

Thanks for the link.....
Yes I do need to replace the cable - with certainty...... the broken cable gave it away.
