No affiliation with the seller but interested in his seats.

Thought they look very similar to the Mazdaspeed ones but it looks like it's fully leather rather than partly leather. It also looks thicker and more cushioned (even more comfy).

Does Recaro even make seats like that? (esp ones that fit into a mx5)

Umm, hope I'm not stating the obvious but the seller states they are Recaro in the ad!

Well.. can't always trust what a seller puts on an eBay ad hence I'm hoping that the experts here can help.

Someone has already asked a question on the sale about getting close up pictures of the seats but the seller has not done it yet.

There are absolutely sh1t loads of fake seats and 'Recaro style' seats out there. Some DO have Recaro / Bride / Sparco etc stitching on them but are not the real deal.

I would be asking for close up pictures and if the seats are a deal breaker for you ask to see an invoice for them. If there is no invoice then ask for the name of the seat (Recaro Speed etc) and see if the pictures compare with what is currently available.

I do remember some time back when copy seats began appearing that the biggest give away were things like the handle of the seat back adjuster not being the same as a genuine one or there not being as much adjustment in the seat. IIRC all the plastic parts have Recaro moulded in to them.

From what the Recaro imnporter told me some time ago, Recaro only made one reclining seat that fitted the MX-5, and it was made for some special edition that was only sold in Japan.

He told me that he could get me in a pair, but they would cost around $2,300 each!

If they are genuine Recaro's, at the price he would have had to pay for them, he would have taken them out and sold them seperately.
Hence why the seller won't put up any decent pictures of the seats.

From what I can see, I've seen similar seats selling for around $300 a pair, made in China, and I would be very wary about the strength (or rather, lack of).

They're definitely not Mazdaspeeds. The shoulder wings don't come out/forward far enough.
