Tonight driving back from work (after the extreme rains!) I hit a bump on the road and suddenly I found myself showered with water. I felt the roof and it turns out water has soaked all the way through my roof to the other side. It's not leaking, it's just drenched right through so the lightest bump and it pools into the interior. Is this normal? My roof is otherwise fine and doesn't leak at all. It's the original one with the plastic window.

Another question though, seeing as my roof is fine.. How much would I be able to get for it if I decided to sell it. ANd what kind of price should I expect to see for a nb8 glass window roof? Or any roof with glass window and demister *NOT CLOTH*. I REALLY want the demister, it's begining to annoy the hell out of me that 90% of the time I can't see anything out the back.

Last question, what can I do to stop fogging? If I decide to pick up something to eat (ie- any hot food), my windows instantly fog up on a rainy day and the demister does NOTHING to solve it!!!!!!!!! It's VERY dangerous too because I find myself having to drive with one hand on the wheel and the other with a cloth in hand rubbing the windows down. That or I have to consistantly pull over... You can see how that becomes annoying.

I was hoping you'd reply to this! I was going to call you about it this week to see if you still had it lying around the place haha. I might be a little strapped for cash this week though as I gotta get this exhaust prob fixed asap (priority), if you aren't in a hurry to get rid of it, I should be able to pick it up off you in the next month I think (I won't have much time soon as I'm on a 3 week nursing placement). Either way I'll give you a call sometime tomorrow and we can work it out then.

A rear demister would solve your rear window fogging issue but does nothing for the windscreen and side windows. You might consider getting a used aircon unit and fitting it. Aircon is the best way to quickly get rid of fogging.

There might be some products on the market that you spray on the glass to stop fogging but I've no idea if they work. I suspect they don't because the fogging is caused by warm humid air condensing on a cold surface - a spray would do nothing for the glass temperature.

you're probably not going to get much for your old soft-top, but condition will be important - here's a recent thread on glass windowed soft-tops:

Your soft top is stuffed. I have never heard of a roof with water soaking through it, unless the material has completely broken down.

Your windows are fogging up because you have a lot of water in the car and to get rid of the fogging, you will need to dry your car out.

Are the carpets wet?
If so, so is your underfelt and this needs to be dried out, otherwise your car will not only continue to fog up the windows, but it will start to smell really bad too when the mildew starts.

It's obvious that the vinyl top has broken down, otherwise you wouldn't have water coming in, but you should be able to see that by the top surface of the vinyl cracking and breaking up.
If the vinyl surface looks OK, then the water is coming in somewhere else, and you'll need to find out where it's coming into the car.
Take your car on a club run, and let a few people have a look at it for you.
They should be able to give you some more pertinent advice as to what to do with it.

There's actaully rainX anti-fog stuff which I've used once. I had a camira which did not have aircon and was a pain if you have 4 people in it on a rainy day. The windscreen would stay in 2 cone shapes where the vents were ....and there was 0 vision out the sides. The RainX stuff worked but from memory it was a bit sad after only 4-5 weeks. I was kinda over it when I realised how short a time it worked.

Just with that, i have a NB glass soft top on my NA6. The NB frame itself sits slightly higher than the stock NA6 frame, which means there will be a slight gap from the top of your window and under the NB soft top.

Just something to keep in mind of.

Interesting... THanks for the tip! I've already organised a replacement at the moment. Surpise surprise though, I managed to work out what happened to my current roof and it's fine... about a week after posting this here I remembered that because my windows had kept fogging up during the intense rain that night, I opened them up a crack to let the interior breath. Water must have worked it's way up along the rails and so on while driving, not to mention I forgot to wind them up when parking, so the interior lining of my roof was soaked and after hitting a pothole, it showered down. But that doesn't change the fact I need a new roof. At the moment my plastic window is sooooooooo far gone now I nearly hit a car backing out of a driveway the other night because you cannot see ANYTHING out of it. Just blurs and shapes. Daylight it's ok, you can't see anything through the rear view mirror but when you turn gaze over shoulder you can make out things through all the mysty scratches and cloudiness.
Not to mention there is a slight tear that has been stitched up (probably years ago) on inside of the zip away part. It's not visible on the outside of the car and water doesn't come through AT ALL. But surprisingly I can hear a lot more roadnice since the stitching has come adrift, leaving a small tear in the vinyl.

Until you get your new top, you can always try polishing the plastic rear screen with some plastic polish, and that should get rid of a lot of the cloudiness.
Meguires and 303 makes a plastic polish that a number of guys on here have used successfully, so it might help you out while you're saving for the new roof.
