Harness Installation - Eye Bolt Question

I need to secure a harness and I've got all the eye bolts in place except the sub belt ones. Just wondering if the backing plate needs to be welded underneath the car or whether you just drill the hole and bolt it, securing it with the spring washer (bendy washer) supplied?
cheers

First thing to note; harnesses are not street legal unless engineered.
Secondly; you need to think about angles of the harness in case of crash. Thus you need to consider where the eye bolts will go.
Thirdly; your backing plates need to be of a heavy enough gauge and shape of steel.

Thanks mate. Now as for the actual question I asked, does the plate need to be welded?

No it doesn't. But I can't see exactly what you're doing, so be it on your own head.

Cheers Bruce. I know all about the angle and width. The plate came with the harness and looks well suited. It's not for street use anyway.
Thanks again.

George,
Have a looksee in the CAMS online manual. It explains all and no it does not have to be welded.

Yes and no.
No, it doesn't HAVE to be welded.
Yes, welding (or other fixing) makes it a lot easier to remove and replace the bolts ...

One more question. Apart from some silicone to seal the drilled hole, should I look at some anti-rust paint or something of that nature?

It wouldn't hurt to rustproof the holes.
In 10 years tme, when you may really need that harness to work, you'll be happy that it won't pull through the rust!
