Hi guys. This is a bit of a stupid question but are the hard tops that people purchase for the NA model mx-5s, are these designed to be taken on and off easily so that the car can be drĂven without a top or were they designed to turn the soft top roadster that the mx-5 is into a coupe?

It's so you can take it easily off and on, on for the colder months, off in summer

Yup, Philz is right. Removing the hardtop is a quick process. Flip open 2 clips above the windscreen, 2 clips behind the doors, move the hardtop forward a few cm's to move it off the 'frankenstein' bolts that are located on the boot, and lift it off. With 2 people its a 1 minute job. Its even possible to do it solo (just be really careful not to drop the thing and chip your paintwork
)

the process might be reasonably quick but if you like top down motoring you have to make the call before leaving home. You also need somewhere to store it. I reckon the retractable hard top on late models is popular because of its convenience.

As a BB the solo removal process is actually starting to "test" (:frown: ) my physical prowess, but I occassionally manage it OK.

I haven't found my hardtop hard to take off the car... I haven't taken the hardtop off since I bought it
