GV Lip - NB8A vs NB8B

Postby BadBong » Sat Dec 05, 2009 11:19 pm

ok guys... was going to put the whole body kit on today now that the last piece of the puzzle has recently arrived (the GV lip);.

However, with Broady by myself, we concluded that it wasn't a good fit and perhaps i've been sourced the wrong NB lip...

So here are my questions:

1. Are there 2 different GV lips for NBs? 1 for 8As and 1 for 8Bs
2. If so, how do you tell? (other than the misfit)

The lip can possibly fit but there'll be a fair bit of bending... compared to Broady NA lip, which apparently fitted on like a glove, my one seems to be slightly wider than it should be. To fit this, i'll need to flex both sides to the right place and the front of the lip will be further forward as a result.

So... before I go back and blast the company that sourced this for me, can someone please help me with some Qs above?

Regie - I've heard from broady that you might be on the look out for a NB8B lip? If i have to wait for another 6-12 weeks before the right one comes, i might just sell this to you at cost price if you're interested (PM me).

it fits, i thought the same thing. the nb8a and b lips are COMPLETELY different. just use some negotiation and it will go on nice.

But how can you tell whether it is the right lip?...

I'll take some photos this arvo and post.

It just bends a fair bit too much from initial measurements.

You can tell because the GV lip for nb8a is more round at the front.

this is a nb8a lip, you can see the pronounced central lip

the photo I've uploaded is of an NB8B

GV Lip - NB8A vs NB8B

Postby BadBong » Sun Dec 06, 2009 10:17 pm

hm... thanks for the pics mate.

I can't see the difference the NB8A and 8B in terms of how round it is from the photos but the double sided tape at the centre of the 8B lip is certainly different.

In the photos i've taken of the lip i have atm, it only has a single line of double sided tape, whereas the 8B lip looks like it has a 'double-v' worth of tape.

So... does that mean i have the right lip and i just have to negotiate a bit more room to fit the lip properly?

That's Nb8A, you have the correct lip.

Another hint is that the thing holding the center is more higher than the nb8b lip

agree...

So now that i've got the right lip - does anyone have a crash course on how to install it properly (i can't read the jap instructions).

I'm assuming... both front wheels off. Drill holes into the front end of the arch and attach the sides of the lip on first and then fiddle around with the rest of the holes towards the centre?

you wont need to take the wheels off, the rest i dunno, youll need a fair bit of help cause it fits so badly, some bending might be involved. maybe hit up one of the guys who has one of these lips to help out

the lips are designed to be a snug fit, which means bending is required (i.e. MUST)

Take off the front bumper and do it, makes things easier than doing it upside down.

Leave it out in the Sun/heat today, should be able to make it a little more flexible as well.

It's not 8B lip, as you can see from the pictures.

I've had an 8b Gv lip and tried to fit it to the 8A, it's too long.

I think it's better to work from the middle of the lip and then outwards

Use bulldog clips to hold it in place, get it sitting square and then just take your time drilling the holes

Also maybe drill the holes slightly bigger than you need so you have a little bit of jiggle space?

cool, thanks guys.

I think i'm going to try to find someone who's put on a nb8a lip before and see whether i can get some help.

Taking the bumper off for the install does sound more logical but i'm *chicken* sh*t to pull it off... (esp. after my episode with the seats  )

Thanks again.
