hello all. after my run in with the fuzz i have had to put my stock bootlid back on. I had painted it black to match the cf hood as I used it for the track to bolt my BFRW on. I would like to get it painted back to the stock colour and was wondering what I should pay for it? the job will be very simple and I can even sand it back ready for primer and paint. The colour is EVO Gold. Thanks for your help.

i think 200 if you've already primed it..

about 300-350 from scratch.

I'd say keep the light.

you've had to change the bootlid once because of police, why give them some fodder to do the same with this one?

I'm must be sooooooooo old now.

Last week there was a thread about people driving around illegally with their fog light lights ablaze because they somehow believed that using their fog lights illegally would make them more visible in the traffic than using their perfectly legal headlights to achieve the same result.

Then in this thread someone wants to illegally remove their high mount central rear stop lamp which were made compulsary several years ago because they make the rear brake lamps more visible to following traffic and hopefully avoid a rear end collision. Which I would have thought would be a favourable outcome when driving a small vehicle like an MX5 in traffic.

I really dont understand what goes through other people's heads. Do you all enjoy the attention of the police/registration authorities?

You're asking for trouble if you remove the 3rd brake light - one or more of the following will happen: a) the police will hassle you again/more and possibly hit you with a defect notice, they will notice; b) you'll have someone crash into the back of you; c) yours or the other car owners insurance co will then wipe you and you'll be left holding a repair bill of your own (lets hope the hit doesn't push you into the back of another car for you to fix too); d) If you ever want to sell the car, you will have to get the 3rd brake light reinstated to get a RWC....

Purposely adding to the chance of someone crashing into the back of you, especially for supposed "looks" is just plain stupid.

I paid $500 for my hardtop and I had done no prep work. A boot would be about the same size, if not a little smaller wouldn't it?

Talking about 3rd brake lights, I'd prefer to have one that sits up on a stalk, like the old 911's used to have.
Personally, I think the 3rd light on the MX5 is too low and putting one on a stalk, mounted just behind the roof, would aid in visibility and would also look cool. 8)
