I closed my boot saturday night, turned the key to the left.
Sunday morning I discovered that the boot would not open with the key, the boot release latch or the remote ... bugga.
I have tried a search on the forum and come up with thousands of items I tried to troll through. In an American site I found some info about drilling holes!!! to open the boot, I hope it doesn't come to that.
I would appreciate some advice please

i had this problem before..
turns out, one of the catches had gone off where it was supposed to be... its pretty tricky to describe because the boot release is intricate.. just get a flashlight and fiddle around with it.
where are u based?
edited.

Doesn't turning the key to the left on the NB8B activate the top secret boot deadlock feature?
I assume you tried turning the key to the right to disable it again?
If all else fails you could try removing the parcel tray carpeting and then taking out the silver cover around the fuel tank. That will give you access to the boot. Then "all" you need to do is remove the boot lining to get to the boot lock. If you have access to small children or a trained hamster the job will be a lot easier.

Based in Adelaide Sliq,
Yep Gary, I turned the key to the right, but it there was little resistance, so I guess the actuating leaver between the key cylinder and the boot lock has come adrift, small children and hamsters will not be able to assist because the boot is almost full with a large sports bag crammed with dirty work clothes (ick) and my work/project laptop and laptop dock/stand. That's the reason I securely locked it.
again....bugga

from memory isn't there a way to remove the number plate light and obtain access to the catch?

If you can get into the boot as Garry suggested the boot lining is only held in place by Xmas tree style holders and you might be able to prise them free without doing damage. I wonder if a few bumps on the outside of the lock with the palm of your hand might help?? Maybe a dealer has a fix

Hmmm... since no one has mentioned it, perhaps a blown fuse/short circuit/open circuit on the remote system causing it to remain locked?
Look at the fuse box and try your other remote, if you have a spare.

Ah, but after having turned the boot key cylinder to the left it disables any other option to open the boot. It can only be opened by key.
The solenoid still operates when the remote is pressed, but it has been disengaged, the same as the console opening leaver.

The number plate light trick wont help with an NB as the light is in the boot lid.
You could break the tail light and drill through the rear panel of the car behind the tail light but thats pretty major.

I might just try a crash repair place, they may have an idea or 2 where I can drill to trip the lock

What have you actually tried? Did you try a dealer / a locksmith ( dealers often have their preferred locksmith so a Mazda dealer might give a lead / is the boot accessible from inside as suggested by Gary? In some instances locks are sorted out by drilling them out but I would not do this without consulting a locksmith.

Last case scenario, angle grind a hole into the boot lid. Good chance to change to a black bootlid & bonnet for the red panda look.

It might be an idea to take the rear boot lining off another NB8B to have a look to see how it all works. That way you might be able to work out a plan of attack.

I once gave someone advice on where they could drill underneath the licence plate to pop the lock, apparently it worked. I'd have to look again to work it all out.
