Obviously we all know that room inside a mx5 is far and few in between... so my Q is - has anyone come up with better ways to use what we've got?

i.e. I don't smoke so i'm thinking of using that little space for something else instead?... but for what?

What about the glovebox? there should be something more we can do with it there too..

Any other ideas would be great... (just switched from a sedan to a mx5 so room is... a big difference)

My ash try currently holds the phone and iPod inputs for my stereo, thats about as far as I've gone. I've seen others get a cup holder in there without much effort. A few people have thrown 'engine start' buttons where the cigarette lighter lives if that counts as an efficient use of space.

Remove the boot lining and stuff things up beside the fuel tank.

I've done the removing boot lining thing, it doesn't look bad, and its only the boot, you can actually fit quite a bit more in, should save you around a 1kg too!

you can fit stuff up both sides, and even in front of the tank. some years ago my girlfreind and i did a road trip and we used this space to carry bottles of wine, jars of jam etc that we bought along the way. just wrap the bottles in a t-shirt or something first to avoid breakage.

not entirely sure its legal to have the filler hose exposed? i can't really talk though.

you can get the bag racks on the back but they look ugly as...

space is a premium but the boot is quite good in my opinion. I would not consider removing the boot lining as it does provide protection to the panels and some degree of insulation. If the seats are not hard back on the stops you can get some zippered bags and tuck them behind the seat and pull them out with the strap- you can get maps street directories first aid kit etc in them. Wearing shirts or jackets with double pockets also helps. I imagine that many MX5 owners store jackets and bags etc in the boot even for small trips rather than clutter a small cabin area. A zippered bag in the boot is pretty handy to keep track of items. The Op shops and Target etc all have a variety of very cheap bags.

i have removed the passenger seat if i need to move something a little bigger. its 4 bolts - nice and easy.

taking the roof off, that gives you much more space

There is a custom made bag that hangs behind the seats.
I'm sure I saw it on the Mania site some time ago.

The bag has various sized pockets, sonme with zips, some with press studs to close them.

I generally use behind the passenger seat for paperwork, and things like hats etc.

the boot carries a nice warm coat.

dashboard carries a scarf.

parcel shelf is used for larger items that I dont want in the boot (bags etc)

I know there's a cup holder in the middle panel but it's totally designed for an Auto...

Are there any modifications we can make to the side door that allows us to hang an ad-hoc cup holder? (not sure whether i'm making any sense here)...
