Tonneau cover fixings

Postby 91mx5 » Tue Jul 21, 2009 4:59 pm

I've just bought a secondhand NB tonneau cover for my NA, but find the fixing studs on either side of the car don't match. The clips along the top of the torque box / parcel shelf are ok. My studs have "nipples" in the centre, while the cover has press "snap" clips. Are generic compatable clips available, or will I have to buy genuine one? Does anyone know what they are called?

I expect that they are standard fittings- a trimmer for cars or boats are likely to be able to match without a problem.

The nb tonneau's aren't designed to fit na's... I'm sure you could modify it, although it would probably be easier to swap it for a NA version

The NB cover seems to fit perfectly other than the 4 x clips. It is a bit tight over the folded frame, but I thought that was normal. Maybe the NA version would be better, but the price was right on this one!

Are we talking 'press dots' on the NA?

Just get a set from a wrecked NB or new ones from Mazda if you're rich. Someone like Mania would have boxes of them. I cant imagine they'd be a big selling item. They just screw in and I'm pretty sure the thread is the same on the NA/NB's. I've found the NB ones work much better than the NA ones too. The clips on my NA used to stick and it was almost impossible to get them off, the clips on the NB clip/unclip easily.

MX5Plus at Stafford could well have the other style of fittings. Both my NB's have different fittings to each other....

Thanks, I'll give them a try. Not far from home.
