Hey all, got back to my car friday night after yet another sardine express ride on connex to find some f**k had slashed my roof. I guess on the plus side they didnt get into the car, I guess the alarm may have deterred them a bit. So after trying to tape the shoebox size slash, I have ended up glueing some black vinyl over the rip. I must say I was somewhat majorly pissed off, felt as if my car had been molested with, and well its just not that pretty with the roof up. So I phoned the cops, gave a report, have yet to phone Insurance. Anybody had to claim a roof before?-is it worth it, or cheaper to buy a replacement??
On the plus side, I travelled out past Frankston today and scored myself a hard top. Gave it a bit of a clean when I got home today, and it has come up sweet. So at least if it rains Im safe thinking the decent sized slash in my roof wont leak on me.
Avoid parking your car at a train station, I learnt the hard way.

It really shows you the types of people that hate society does'nt it? Very sorry it had to happen this way but thats just the way it goes sometimes.

The hardtop looks excellent by the way, black goes seemingly well with the blue :? 8)

Thanks for the support. Yeh I could understand (sort of) if they slashed the roof and actually stole the car, but they just slashed the roof!, what sort of buzz would you get out of that??. I dont think the black looks that bad against the blue either, nice contrast i think...
cheers
I guess Im lucky also, that they didnt key the paint etc etc

Sorry to here about that mate. What station were you at? It's likely that it was simply one of societies less desirable individuals looking for some drug money. Hopefully you can get the roof fixed at minimal cost.

I'm having to park my car at the station a couple of days a week now, I'm a bit worried about this happening to me too... I leave my car with the glove box and centre console open to show there is nothing worth stealing... Seems to have worked so far, hopefully it will continue to.

The hardtop looks great, the black and blue is a nice contrast.

The black hardtop goes with everything - doesn't look any odder than the black soft top. :)

Sorry to hear about the slashing though. I had my window smashed at a station car park a few years back. :(

Unless you have some horrendous insurance excess then yes, it will be worth claiming. A decent replacement with fitting will be close to $2000.

I feel for you mate,

Im too paranoid to park my cars anywhere other than a lockup carpark!

Just the other day at the supermarket some rotten prick a spat their vicks vapour-drop onto the roof of my daily corolla! WTF  Who does that sh*t?
Being a 35deg day it melted and now I need a buff/cut polish to remove it properly.
I know its only a corolla, but it is quite a nice car... VV

Hey all, thanks for the sympathy, Bensale it was parked at Oakleigh, needless to say I wont be parking in the same spot each day now. Hadnt actually thought about leaving the console and glove box open, I actually always lock mine, but maybe I will leave them open from now on, good idea. Stan, the color is Laguna Blue, some say not that common?, as for a replacement roof costing 2k, I will surely be calling insurance then (excess not sure of yet). I think no matter what type your car, if you look after it and some prick damages it, it completely sucks. The flip side to all this, I ended up getting a hard top really cheap, just a day late.

2 K for a roof. ROFLMHO.....not at you...... but whoever told you that. Probably a Mazda dealer. You can do much better than that. $600- $800 will get you a real nice roof. for 1K you can get a NB roof in good shape with Glass, probably on a frame. You just need to install it.

Laguna blue. yep its definitely a rarer colour. I'm starting to warm up to it.

I do not see why the top cannot be repaired- in theory you just have a patch professionally sewn on. A hard top is an idea but not everyone wants that encumbrance on a convertible. All day parking in railway car parks is unfortunately somewhat risky.

That would have been me. :P

Yes, you can certainly buy a cheaper roof and spend the time installing it yourself (which isn't hard, but it is fiddly and time consuming). But if insurance is paying for replacement because of what some lowlife has done I'd say you're better off getting it done properly. Why waste more of your own time and end up with an ebay special? :)

A hardtop is not a security measure. My car had the hardtop on when it was broken into. A broken window might be a bit cheaper than a cut soft top but they can still do as much damage once they're inside. :(

I been looking for a hard top - but not many colours go with Laguna Blue. I do like your combination - no respray required - very nice.

I given up finding a Laguna Blue one - don't seem to have any trouble finding Laguna Blue cars though.

2K will definitely get you a quality soft top supplied and fitted - if insurance isn't paying I'd look for a NB roof + frame - it bolts straight in - just need to modify the demister plug and you may need the demister relay (should be located below the boot latch).

Ah come on,
A Hardtop will make it as hard to break into as any fixed roof vehicle, A softtop is easier to work with and slicing it doesnt make any noise, And why its more inclined to be targeted by theives. add Hardtop= No slashed roof

A Hardtop is a security measure when you have a softtop
