When winding the LHS power window up or down, at about the bottom half it struggles, slows down and makes a squealing noise like its rubbing against the seals?
What's the best way to fix this? I could always just cover the whole window in WD-40...

I think its just lithium grease into the rails that hold the window in place. You just have to take the door trim off.

Might also be worth putting chain lube on the cable, that extra friction might be stressing everything else.

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id/227In my window this thing is cracked, so when the roof is down and windows up on bumpy road windows kinda rattle a bit. Its also squeeky when window goes up and down sometimes, with or without the grease...
Need to find this thing but for NB8Bs....

I'll be giving the grease a go, I have exactly the same problem. I got a little bit of relief through cleaning out the guide tracks but i'll give this a go next.

Actually I wish we had manual windows and power mirrors rather than the other way around. You fitted the winders yourself didn't you?

Agreed. Almost every day I turn the ignition off, remove the key and then go to open the door, only to realise my window is still down
That manual winder seems like a worthwhile mod!

i tried putting grease in the rails today. but to no avail.
after ripping off the door trim, it was pretty hard to find where the rails were because of the clear plastic sheet.
did anyone actually rip this sheet off to get to the rails?
does anyone have photos of how they accessed the rails?

you need to pull the sheet off... it has this sticky black goop on it, so you can sort of just puch it back into place when you're done and it should re-attach itself. )well, on an NA, anyway)
once you have the sheet off you should be able to see the rails more clearly.
