yakob wrote:Who has done it? Are there holes left over or is it adhesive? What is required afterwards in terms of filling holes (respray, etc)?

Thanks..

Oh and pics too would be nice.

Fixed

Not sure if you mind looking at NAs. If not then yes I have done it when I rebuilt her back in 1999. I removed all the Australian stickers/badges front and rear. Replaced it with a single Roadster badge where the Mazda badge would be on the rear panel. I think the Roadster badge had two protruding tabs which I shaved off and used double sided tape to adhere it to the rear panel. This makes me think that perhaps there were holes left behind ... but it has been 9 years so I could be wrong. Any NB8 owners out there to confirm?

Anyway some photos of the de-badged front back in 2000:

yakob wrote:That's probably the best looking NA I've seen.

Personally I don't like them. I think that was a suicide statement on this forum. But I guess we all have our dislikes.

However, that NA looks exceptionally nice. Especially the rims. When and why did you get rid of them?

Awww I'm blushing now  Thanks for the compliment yakob.

My Volk Racing TE37s were originally silver and were resprayed to match the new paint job at the time. However being 17"x7", when I started getting into motorsports at local grassroot level, I realised that I needed 16"x7" for many reasons. The main reasons were the cost and fitment of 16" semi-slick tyres (much taller sidewalls).

So the Volks were sold in in 2005 or 2006 I can't remember now.
Bought 2 sets of Enkei RPF1s - 1 set of gold 17" for street use and 1 set of silver 16" (very light for the size) for track use. Then I realised I was hardly driving the car on a daily basis as I was only taking it out for club days and track days. So the gold ones were sold off to someone off this forum in Melbourne or Sydney, I believe.

That is the story. She has certainly come a long way from a stock as a rock white 1989 NA6.
A lot of history together...

I'm 33 mate. It has taken me close to 3 years non-stop rebuilding the old girl ground up.

All in all after near on 10 years, I still am always doing things to it.

Never rush things. Patience really pays off when building a long term project.

Enjoy it while you can 8)

I was keen to de-badge mine, but i think you'll find that their is two holes left afterwards. So a source of mine says after she tried it. Havent done it myself though, anyone with a NA know for sure??

Th SP logo is just a stick on decal.

The rest have tabs that which mean holes in the rear panel.

It has been common practice to have pins as an integral part of the moulded badge and for these to be placed on pre punched sheet metal and fixed with spring steel fixes which generally push over the pins from the rear- so check the inside panel to see if clips are visible. The other common practice is double sided tape which is die cut and attached to the badge. The badge supplier sends the badge to the car maker and they remove the release paper and fit to the car. If you have holes in the panel it would be necessary to fill and repaint or put a small canoe clip or rubber grommet to close the holes- not sure if anyone would like the closure method.

i have a NA. i only got rid of the mx5 badge. I heated with hairdrier, fishing line behind, most of the adhesive wipes off due to the heat, then some wax and grease remover whats left. never would have known there was one there.

takes all of 5 minutes
