having the plate like this can have potential issues if your cooling system isn't 100% up to scratch.
I would be inclined to take it off at the racetrack.

I've had it like that for some time & its been fine on some pretty hot days on the freeway as well as mountain roads & normal traffic. I've drĂven some NA's at night & as soon as you give it some stick up the old pack, the temp wet straight up. If you do put it in there be prepared to remove the number plate or turn it back around until you are certain you do not have any cooling issues.

Why you'd want to stick the numberplate in front of the air intake is beyond me... :?

You mean radiator? I don't know of too many 5's that come with the air intake in the grille without modifications...

Meanwhile, although it's a bit of a bad angle, how about a little bit of this:

I bent my factory plate around to sit it there. Had to drill a couple of new holes too, but it's only a number plate bracket, so no big deal there. The bracket is suprisingly malleable (from what I remember anyway... did this like a year and a half ago or so).

yakob wrote:your a legend, thats what i want! looks so much better, because the nose is a bit pointy on that nb, it looks odd with a numberplate sticking out. and your right. i think the radiator will be fine haha.

so u used the original bracket?

Yep. Basically I bent the prongs downwards, then drilled holes so the plate sits in the mouth a little bit more. If you use the standard holes, the plate sits out at the distance of the nose, because that's obviously where the original bracket needs to go. I did have to drill new holes for the actual plate too because the holes were upside down once I bent it.

so you bent the plates downwards. i get that part. but what did udrill?[/quote]
I drilled new holes for the plate to be mounted to the bracket, and I drilled new holes for the bracket to sit further back in the mouth.

If you're gonna bend your original bracket, you'll see what I mean. Just be sure to have a metal drill the size of the bolts of the number plate holes and the bracket holes handy :P

It's sitting back on an angle in the photo because I'd just done a country run during which I definitely did not do 100mph. I normally adjust it so it sits with the bottom ever so slightly forward of the top

This is how it normally is, its just the other photo is clearer

Take the bracket off and run cable ties from the holes in the inside of the bar that the bracket mounts to, through your plates, then zip them up. Don't do them up really tightly.

Might also pay to flush your radiator first. I havent had any problems with overheating since I put mine in the mouth (temporarily) about....... 2 years ago now maybe

Wow, thanks for the compliment RogerC.

You could also do an offset mount

When a design works amazingly well do you keep the details to yourself?
