NC gear knob removal

Postby Penguin » Thu Sep 25, 2008 6:24 pm

Hi all

I want to change the gear knob on my NC. I understand the old one just screws off.

Can anybody give suggestions as to the best way of getting the old one off without damaging it.

I am sure a large set of multigrips work but.......

it should just screw off easily, unless someone ham fisted oaf has tightened it tighter than you can unscrew it, mine came off easily.............I would suggest multigrips, but wrap the knob with a rag to protect it, & just lean on it gently & by degrees until it gives............ :)

Unscrew it.....anti-clockwise. Mine was no problem.

When I get home I will have to put all my brute (?) strength into it. No multigrips.

Try wrapping a leather belt around it a couple of times then pull, it will be easier to grab with your bill

After a lot of flapping and using my web feet I got the knob off.

New knob feels mucj better in my hand.

Thanks for the help.

Any chance you want to sell your original gear knob?
