azntien,

i accidentally reversed into my car into another car and it left a nasty opening layer in the rear bar (as you described on your bonnet).

i took my car to my panel beater and he had to sand back the surrounding area of it and respray it.. if you just merely touch it up with paint, this won't prevent the paint from peeling off.

looks as good as new but costed me $120  there wasn't a dent in it or anything, just that the labour was a b!tch for such a small job.. i think you would be able to get off it a bit cheaper because mine was a fairly big patch.. a quarter the size of my palm.

well i went back to the panel shop

and the guy wasn't sure what to do at all

as he thought touching it up would make the paint stand out so he glued the flap down

then he found another stone chip so he thought he'd try and touch it up with the paint from my car that was left over and he was surprised it blended in pretty well

I'll go back to him whenever I go past and he'll buff it down for me and do the other ones

i've heard of people getting an a4 sheet of paper putting a small pin prick in it. Then putting the paper over the stone chip and giving it a very light spray.

Might be dodgy and better left to the pro's but remembering reading it on a detailing site a while back.

my stone chip isn't that small lol

if it was i would get over it

but its around 3mm big

and because the paint had come off the primer stands out so you see this white thing which grabs all attention on my newly fresh painted bonnet

you can buy touch up paint from mx5parts in all the mx5 colours. but by the sounds of it your stone chip may be a bit bigger than most so it might not have beeb suitable anyway.

The only way of fixing this properly is sanding back the area around the chip and re applying the paint. Perhaps its time to learn how to paint? I've recently get some similar chips on my windscreen frame. I've used some touch up paint but it looks a bit dodgy, when I get time i'll be doing it properly with some properly color matched paint. I would advise against getting a colour out of a can, the crystal white touch up paint I bought was a completly different color to what was on the car...
