fine cracks on the bumper

Postby silvermiata » Mon May 12, 2008 1:07 pm

Hi Guys,

because of some idiot smashed into my back bumper, i have some very fine hair like cracks on my paint on the bumper. Has anyone experienced this and how did you fix it or get it fixed? How much would i be looking to spend to get these fixed?
its just on the bumper, but i am not sure if they can fix it or if they have to repaint the whole thing.?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

over time the paint will crack all over the bumper, best getting the bumper resprayed, my front bumper cost $300 so it souldnt be far off that.

MXhevn- this all depends on yr priorities and yr disposable. Chances are nobody except you will notice and the car drives just the same. If you have to pay a pro the est provided is prob about right. U can get spray packs and colour matched at reasonable cost and have a go at spot repair - u would need to rub it down prime it paint and clear coat but a perfect job may elude you. Lots of articles around on repair/repaint and auto paint suppliers are usually helpful. imho - check others.

Morlock, My paint is in very good condition, and on the bumper it did not peel off or anything, its just some idiot smashed into it, and made hair like cracks on the top of the bumper where it curves... so i dont think i can touch it up, as they are around 10 cm long and they are very fine cracks...
has anyone experienced this?

Did you get the idiots name and number? Just take it to a panelbeater as it needs a respray. No, you can't touch it up. Possible damage behind bar too.

Its possible to touch up... UA did it at a dodgy day sometime last year. Cant remember the exact process but it involved sanding with wet'n'dry (i think) then spraying primer and paint. Came up great. Search previous qld dodgy day threads and you should find it.

long story about the accident, i was driving in t3 in the morning (for 200 meters literally) and i have seen a cop getting on to the victoria road from the side street, so i tried to jumped back to second lane, did not really brake hard or anything, and just got in to the second lane and idiot behind me slammed into my back (guy who was also in T3 lane on his own)..

i thought i would not have a boot anymore but surprisingly no problems expcept some hair like cracks... meanwhile after the accident happened, guy just drove off and the cops came next to my car and give me a lecture about how i should not be on t3 and not to panic when i see a cop car... meanwhile the guy just drove off... so i am very very pissed off to the cops... i have taken the number plate of the guy, went to the police station, just to find out that the number plate is stolen... so i got screwed by cops... (ah well i should not have been in t3 but still...)

Silvermiata- earlier comments still valid. The paint is has cracked as the bumper has deformed. If it bothers you - say next week- you might then diy or pro route. The smaller auto paint suppliers will tell you what you need.

silvermiata....

Look at these pics... the front bumper was damaged and had hairline cracks. http://web.mac.com/wayneshelley/Waynes_ ... 07.html#28

Maybe PM Uncle Arthur and ask for some tips... you'll find him posting in the cycling incident cow in OT.

Have a look underneath and see if the supports behind the bar are still square.

I don't know why but a totally different image came into my mind when I read \"fine cracks on the bumper\". This whole topic turned out to be really disappointing.
