I posted this as a reply to another thread, but now the thread seems to be missing
I got some pictures of the rack I built for my Dad today:
The pictures are here:
http://www.ben.foo.cc/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=332Looking at it, you could probably build something similar out of wood, the only tricky bit would be drilling and bending the angle for the lower mounts.

Nope
I would post them up but that site doesn't show the .jpeg link to the image otherwise it would be easy to imbed them

In that case, there's more than one way to skin a cat..
I've used that gallery software on other forums and it's worked? Must be something with this forum software..

Looks very neat indeed
What was the cost on that?
The most IMPORTANT question here is, would you be willing to make one for a fee for those who would be willing to grab one off you? i've been looking for a similar solution for a while

That one was just built up out of scrap I had lying around the shed.
If I was going to build them for sale I'd change the design to make them easier to ship (two bars leading directly from the rear mount to the side mount - it would look a little like this / \\ with the roof off). That way I could fit them in a postage tube.
Next time I'm in the metal shop I'll have a look at material prices and I'll try to work out what I could do them for - I'd guess around $50 + postage.
I'd prefer to do a batch of about 10, so the more interest the better. Not wanting to step on any sponsors toes, I'll talk to the board admins before I go any further..

Nice job,
I think i may have to get the welder out and do a similar one. Hope you don't mind if I pinch your design.

pffft i think your hardtop has only ever been off the car for about 7 minutes anyway.
if you ever need anywhere to "store" your hardtop i have a perfectly good storage space for it......
(on my car)

That was my original idea, just don't make my mistake and use galvanized metal (I was sick as a dog after welding that)..

Well I don't like to have my beautiful hair messed...
Thanks Ben, yeah galvanised metal not good to weld nasty fumes....

The board management have given me the OK, so I'll have a look at the cost of parts shortly. I've got the Rally of Canberra on this weekend, so it might be a couple of weeks before I get a number..
