Soft top installation

Postby phaedo » Sun Mar 16, 2008 12:37 pm

I finally broke down and got a new robbins roof for the NA, since I have had the old one with a torn back window for months. However, although it doesn't look like too big a job, I don't necessarily trust that I will do a proffessional job of putting it on. So, question is, anywhere around Brookvale area to install it? I think I heard sometime ago there is an upholsterer around here? And any idea on cost? Just spent $1200 on a service and rear brakes at Mazda, not going there again, so the cheaper (but still done right) the better.

Seriously - do it yourself - it's an easy job.

Hardest part is transferring over the rain rail from the old to the new, assuming it doesn't have one already.

Yeah, might still give it a go myself, bribe one of the guys I work with with some beer, (after it is installed!) and the new one does have a rain rail installed already.

13 bolts, 8 screws, and two 6 rivets and you're done.

And keep the rain rail from the old one if you can - it may be worth selling if you are careful when removing it. They cost a fortune new from Mazda.

Following Uncle Arthurs advice, I am in the process of doing this myself. So far, not actually a hard job, just time consuming. However, I have run into the B pillar nut. Usually not an issue if there is a problem. But, shops are shut today, I can't get the old nuts out with the screwdrivers I have. Otherwise going well.... 2 hours so far, and other than that bit the old top is off.

Yeah, not going to happen, one side was all ripped anyway. Lucky the new top has one installed on it.
On another note, installation is going well. Not a hard job, but with the rain rail and a couple of bits left to still do, I may run out of light... not good when I have nowhere undercover to park it overnight
