New driver seat

Postby GP14 » Thu Mar 06, 2008 11:50 am

Hi all. I'm looking for a new seat. I've done a search on the forum and I like the sparco sprint. does anyone know where I can buy in Brisbane or would it be cheaper to import from the UK from this mob www.jmcmotorsport.co.uk.

Also does anyone in Brisbane have one installed that I can sit in and have a feel.

thanks

Saboteur and Zoom zoom have them.
MX5Plus has a red one, and a similar black one of a different brand.

Ive got a pair of Sparco Sprints installed and they are great.

They lack a bit of lumbar support, pay a visit to Supercheap and get a lumbar cushion for $9 and it's perfect.

GP Cars at Kelvin Grove have them, and have a demo one to sit in, as well as a race car NA MX5 with them fitted....

Thanks Guys
I will head to GPCars This weekend. I would prefer to sit in the seat in the car just to feel where everything is and see if i like. No doubt I will. :)

Cheers

I have the sprint and I am quite happy. You do need to have quite a slender frame to fit in it though, they are quite narrow. I don't think the sprint is available anymore, but there is a newer version I think the sprint V which Ajay is selling a couple of atm, if they are still avail.

No worries GP14. They might be worth a phone call though to check on closing times. I have the feeling they might shut at 5.30, but don't quote me :)

I think both the Sprint and Sprint V are available. The V has side and bottom mount, as well as crotch strap hole, and apparently the V is a bit wider.... The V also looks a bit more bling.

A quick google search found a couple of hits.

1st - A Vic dealer selling these seats ==>> http://www.autopartspro.com.au/category51_1.htm

and, more interestingly....this on the CAMS website.

FIA withdraws homologation on Cobra Monaco seat
11 Feb 2003

The FIA has recently issued a notice withdrawing the homologation of the following type of Competition Seat, homologated to the FIA 8855 standard. As the seat no longer be considered to comply with the standard, they may no longer be used in any competition where compliance with the 8855 standard is compulsory, with immediate effect.

This will predominantly effect cars competing in International FIA events such as Rally Australia and Rally of Canberra, and V8 Supercars, where compliance with the FIA 8855 standard is mandatory.

The seats concerned are:
+ COBRA SEATS (UK)
model MONACO, Homologation # CS.980.99
Former owner of Mailbu Stacey, Smurfette and Tweety.

Thanks Juffa,
I did do an oz google search and found nothing in oz only UK, US etc.

As for the standards, if in the future i do decide to use my car for say the qld mx5 challenge or something thats only local does that prevent me from entering?

Cheers

Apparantely, Sparco Sprint itself is no longer available new (unless shops/suppliers have excess stock that they have not sold off yet). Sparco now bring out the Sparco Sprint V. In my opinion the badging is not as nice as the original Sprint, but it's supposed to have nicer fabric (maybe) and it has the crotch hole for a 6 point harness. $490 new.. so price is still good.
I just tracked down a second hand Sparco Sprint for sale and purchased that..so if you're desparate for that particular model just check forums and ebay for one I think. You may be lucky and find some new that a shop still has left over.
