Gas lifters for boot and bonnet

I'm considering getting a set of those gas lift struts. (I'm inherently lazy
and can't be bothered using my arm to lift the boot and bonnet when opening.)
From my initial searches, two are need for the bonnet and one for the boot.
Does anyone have these? If so, can you tell me (1) how long each strut is and (2) how they attach?

MX5 parts uk has bonet lifters (I think they are made by ILM)...
Some users have posted reviews on the product some say its good some say its bad.
You also have to drill the bonet here and there to atach the lifters.

I have both the bonnet and boot lifters from mx5parts.co.uk and can tell you that they are both brilliant. The bonnet one not only looks more modern but also lifts the bonnet higher which makes working in the engine easier but also gets rid of that annoying stick in the middle. Only downside is you can see the strut in the gap between the bonnet and the guard. I have nothing but good things to say about the boot strut. Unless you want to keep things hidden in the boot, because this opens the boot all the way with no assistance. Even with a spoiler on the back. Highly recommended. If you don't want to spend that much then Green-comet (the ideas man
) has put a Falcon bonnet strut on his and you might want to pm him.

Thanks guys!
My dad reckons he can get them on the cheap from somewhere... Otherwise they're not too badly priced online...
meanmx, can you do me a massive favour and measure the length of the struts for me?

Wow - that's pretty cheap. I've seen them for US$50 from Miata Mania (aka Moss USA). Wonder what they're like...

One of our club members recently installed some bonnet gas strut lifter thingos, he comes on most club runs so attend some events and i'll point him out so you can ask quiz him about them.
I think they're only really useful if your car is going to be on show with the bonnet open all day as it would stop a gust of wind wobbling the bonnet pole thing loose.
My concern would be if your bonnet catch failed in some way, you wouldn't get much notice of the bonnet bouncing around before the gas struts lifted the bonnet upwards blocking your view of the road ahead.

Some of the earlier bonnet struts were a bit over assisted and not made for softer aluminium bonnets which caused a few bonnets to bow when closed. I would expect the newer products to have overcome that by now.
