I want to remove the break dust sheild thing that kida covers the rotors. (In a bid to reduce some weight)

I presume the shield has nothing to do with breaking peformance and has no real function other than collecting dust. So I assume its safe to remove them am I correct??

Has anyone done this to save some weight?

They are removed they dont weigh a lot mabye a couple of hundred grams.



My thoughts are:

They dont have scoops like the front ones to collect passing air.
Keeping water off only one side of the rotor doesent make sence.
I have the same amout of dust with or without them.
Me thinks it acts as a heat shield for when the rotors get super hot.

Removing bonnet strap and leaving it in the tool box next.

I doubt they weigh very much....but then again every little bit helps

I'm guessing that they also help a little with air flow ie: cooling, so you may lesson the performance of your brakes during repeated hard use

they look to me like they are there to move more air to your brake and rotor to help cool them

and i doubt you'll reduce much weight by removing that

it's probably not even 1kg all 4 of them

They'd also stop puddles splashing onto your brake rotors so help keep the brake discs dry and reduce any warping that may occur when cold water meets with hot rotors.

You can run without them quite safely - they're next to useless. Most people (myself included) who upgrade to larger brakes end up removing or severely butchering them and don't have any problems.

However ... they weigh bugger all. You'll probably lose more body weight during the effort of removing them than the car will lose.

how bout getting rid of the stock shields & replacing them with these ones?



fit between the wheel & rotor instead. could paint them, would help to keep the wheels a lot cleaner & they'd hide non painted calipers/rotors too.
