I'm an idiot!

Havent posted on here for a while... just wish I could share some better news.

The following pictures are all my own stupidity. I was driving my car out of our steep driveway down the side of the house when I corrected after nearly hitting a mirror on the fence. Unfortunately it meant my right tyre got on some slippery plants/mulch stuff that was on the side and started sliding back down. No matter what I tried it just wouldnt grab until eventually scraped the wall.

Pics of the horror:

Well I'm trying to console myself with the fact that there's not really any panel damage and it will hopefully just need respray.

Doesnt make me feel much better though, but its nothing that cant be fixed eventually I guess.

Everyone seems to recommend hume so i might go for a trek out there tomorrow.

Just trying to decide if its worth doing on insurance or not, I already lost a no claim bonus because someone hit me in a carpark.

first thing i'd be doing is getting some weedspray and cleaning up that driveway so it doesn't happen again!

I you have animals or small children at home, it's better NOT to use a sprayed-on chemical to get rid of the weeds.

Instead, boil up some water in the kettle, and pour the boiling hot water onto the offending weeds, making sure you get it where it pops out of the ground (in other words, near the roots) and in a couple of days, the weeds will be dead.
Then the wind will eventually get rid of the deadens for you, or you can pull them out easily.

Much safer than using chemicals that can get into your good plants.

If you own the place, I would dig it all out and put in a concrete shallow gutter.

I dont own the place but hopefully the landlord will sort it out.

I rang Shannons today and nearly passed out at how much my insurance premium will go up by if i make a claim.

Went out to Hume and about $1800 but I'm also going to get some paintless dints taken care of on the other side at the same time. Unbelievable that its actually more cost effective to pay for this repair myself than do it on insurance.

Oh well not feeling too bad about it now, I'm booked in a couple of weeks time but from the sounds of it on here, Hume will fix it up good for me.

And it's still cheaper to go privately for $1800??
How much is your premium going to go up? How much is the excess? I thought Shannons were quite reasonable usually. If I claimed through Just Car, even with my age excess it'd be $1200...

Would having one of those Torsen diffs have avoided this problem could anyone tell me? Seems like a good excuse to get one!

Marcusus. I spoke to the guy from shannons, my situation is I am currently on a 55% no claim bonus because someone smashed my back light in a carpark so I had an at fault claim. My premium is about $1600 and apparently I'd drop to 35% ncb if i make this claim. The guy calculated what my premium would be next year and it was apparently \"about\" $3000. With the excess and that taken into account, and the fact it'll take me another 3 years to get up to rating one, it just seems better off paying it myself.

Shannons is great otherwise, I think I just need to get to the 65% fixed for life rating... gotta try and avoid these stupid mistakes I guess.

Wow
I thought Shannons had cheap premiums? You aren't in the mega young range of drivers or anything are you?
