Folding sun visors

Like many other people, I have removed the sunvisors from my MX-5, because all they do for me is block my vision.

My wife, however, is shorter than me and always seems to have the sun in her eyes when a passenger in the car.

Is it worthwhile fitting the Japanese market folding visors?

When folded, are they above the windscreen and out of my eyeline?

when they fold they are the same thickness as the AUS delivered ones..

i got the folding ones so i didnt have to pull down the visors to open and close the roof.. i guess if they were blocking your view you could leave them unfolded as they wont be in the way..

or better yet..

get some bucket seats and you sit heaps lower.. no problems

Do it.. Juuus do it! 8)

They're great, sit right out of the way and never interfere with the soft or hardtop!

i reckon they're smaller than the original ones, a bit thinner and dont stick out that good 4cm that the old ones did past the windscreen, so they dont get faded leaving the roof down either.

I have apparently heard they are illegal due to their wire inserts, potentially causing head injuries but again what is legal these days..especially in SA... meh do it just get some!! :D

My dad just bought some, one of which was a little faded, with a little vinyl spray they look like new!

I bought some of these a little while ago too.

They're a bit tricky to fold down and get in the right place I've found, but sit nicely when up - and don't block vision.

Was it only the JDM cars that got them? Did all of the JDM cars get them?

So, how much? I remember seeing them on eBay for around $50

Without referring to my MX5 reference books, I think all the JDM cars got them for a few years, maybe until the 94 update. Not sure though.

Seem to remember they didn't meet ADR's so we got the fat solid visors.

They must be legal, If they didn't meet regulations then they would have to be changed for compliance like the seatbelts

Na not really
anything can/was complied
I saw an FD rx7 that was a drift car with full welded in cage complied for road use! it had the wrong wheels wrong ofsets and wheel spacers etc 4 inch extentions on the guards either side no way it was legal

The compliance places just changed the seat belts put in baby seat points(where aplicable)
blacked out non compliant indicators
added indicator/brake lights to 4x4's with rear hung spare tyres
side intrusion bars where not fitted from factory

really they don't do anything that the common handy car owner could do!
its just they had a plate that says they can do it!

you could theoretically have a totally illegal car but as long as it had new seat belts side intrusion and all the other stuff it could get complied!

I didn't do this 8) But years ago I (I mean another guy) got a car complied which was a lot iffy. All I had to do was pay the guy and change a few minor things.

Depends on who you know, not what the road laws say.

I take back what I said before. They do block the vision if you are tall!
