Gauge trim rings

Postby Alfadog » Sun Aug 26, 2007 1:54 pm

I have been told that the speedo/tacho are meant to have a chrome trim around them, and from pictures it seems this is true.

However my car (1997 NA8) does not have these.

Does anyone know the deal with this? And where I can find trim rings for the dials.

It should have rings around the speedo, and tacho..

It almost looks like yours has been painted. :?

In the UK at least the chrome rings were deleted for the 96/97 models.

A photo of a UK 1997 Limited Edition certainly shows no chrome rings.

That explains it then :)

Thanks Gazbo!

I wonder why they were deleted...

MX5_boy I have seen those... they seem awfully expensive for what they are though. I am searching for alternatives :)

Cost...same reason your engine gasket cover bolts are plain versus the earlier chrome ones...

Nope not painted, just missing.

Mania sell them, and the 3 little rings too.

the actual plastic face looks painted tho craig. sure the chrome rings are missing, but look at the plastic gauge face. it has a textured finish, rather than the smooth finish that most of us have.

Yes, it has a textured finish. It's not painted though as far as I can tell.

Cost cutting perhaps, but they added costs in other areas (e.g. the map pockets in the doors).

My 94 had the map pockets. There's a few areas they cut costs on the mid 95's -97's but they also gave it a compression bump and a revised computer so they're a little more responsive.
