I figured someone would've just got their MX5 sprayed yellow anyway.

The Malibu Gold aka Sunburst Yellow in the states was imported by Mazda Aust in 1992. According to Mazda Aust 55 were imported. Which is why it is rare to see one being sold. All the ones I have seen were built in Nov 1991, with a compliance date of April 1992.
It is funny that you should mention that you like White and Yellow as the car were orginally spayed in white and then put back on the production line again and sprayed on yellow.
You could spray it yellow, but to do it well like any colour change requires you to strip the car and spray the engine bay and all of those hidden spots.
The yellow MX-5 was re-introduced in the USA a few years ago as a special order only model and was reasonably popular. I saw a couple in Seattle USA a couple of months ago.

I'm pretty sure most of the owners of Yellow MX5s are banking on their cars becoming sought-after vehicles and appreciating significantly in value in a few years time. Therefore the cars are seen as being too precious to be let out on the roads.

There used to be a yellow one in the Gold Coast chapter, but it isn't allowed out to play anymore.

How about black? Did they come out as black?

Yes they come in Black "C"....
...if fact you said it yourself in your first post....remember?
